THE TITHING

WELCOME TO THE ARENA

SHORTLISTED FOR "BEST NEW LARP" AT 2023 UK LARP AWARDS

RUNNER-UP FOR "BEST SMALL LARP" AT 2024 UK LARP AWARDS

"In penance for their uprising, each Province shall offer up randomly selected citizens over the age of 18 at a public Harvest.

These Tithes shall be delivered to the custody of the Metropole, and then transferred to a public arena where they will fight to the death until a lone Champion remains.

Henceforth and forever more, this pageant shall be known as The Tithing."

WHAT OUR PLAYERS SAY

"I would rank this as easily my top two, if not best, LARP I have ever been to."

MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR

"The Tithing: Arena" is a 24hr time-in, Player vs Player vs Environment survival combat LARP inspired by The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

The Tithing serves as a reminder of the horrors of the Uprising. Each year a blood tithe is paid by each Province, with Tithes being offered up in the yearly Harvest. These Tithes fight to the death in a pageant of honour, courage and sacrifice, and the Champions serve as a reminder of New Eden's generosity and forgiveness. By holding the annual Tithing, the government ensures that the events of the Uprising are not forgotten and reminds the people just how brutal the year-long attack was from the traitors in Province 13.  To win the Tithing is to become a hero of the people and a symbol of hope for the future of New Eden. â€‹

"I LIKE THE SOUND OF THIS BUT I'M WORRIED I'M NOT FIT ENOUGH."

IS THIS YOU? HAVE A READ OF THIS FIRSTHAND ACCOUNT FROM ONE OF OUR REPEAT PLAYERS WHO ALSO HAD THE SAME THOUGHT!

"As someone who uses a walking stick to help with mobility, and suffers from fatigue and mental health issues, I would never have thought a 24 hour survival horror battle-royale LARP would be for me. But I wanted to try anyway, mainly because I loved the Hunger Games setting, and knew some others who were going. I’m so glad I did. Not once have I felt excluded from anything because of my disabilities. I was able to get stuck in with the game world, and felt supported the entire time. The system has some very clear safety calls and Out Of Character check-ins, so I knew I was in good hands if I needed to take a break for either mental or physical health. You don’t have to be a fitness freak to have a good time - running doesn’t necessarily mean survival, and you can always choose to hide instead of fight. There are plenty of different play styles, and the game team are exceedingly accommodating with anything you need for accessibility reasons. And, without spoiling too much, even if your character dies, there’s still plenty of ways to get involved in the game without feeling like you’re losing out. Now, I won’t sugar coat everything - if you’re a wheelchair user, it may not be the game for you, simply because of site terrain - however, I imagine crewing it as a Non-Player Character might be possible! I will also admit, I do have to spend some time off after the game to recover - but that’s mostly because I push myself a little further than I should (my own fault), as to me it’s worth putting in a bit of extra energy to create wonderful roleplay moments that have stayed with me, and are probably going to for the rest of my life. That said, the game team are very good at reminding people to self-care, their mental and physical first aiders are amazing, and there’s no judgement if you need to take some time for yourself out of play to decompress after any intense roleplay. The Tithing has become one of my favourite LARP systems. It’s so immersive, inclusive, cathartic and outright fun!"

IN-GAME THEMES & CONTENT

In the world of New Eden, horrific and brutal events take place. The game will include tension and suspense, and so we would advise potential players to make an informed decision as to whether this is the sort of game for them. We may not always have the chance to warn players of a sensitive or difficult topic and so, by attending the event, you accept that you may encounter some or all of the following content:

  • Gore

  • Murder

  • Poverty

  • Psychological fear

  • Jump scares

  • Simulated torture

  • Being hunted

  • The dark

  • Suspense

  • Loud noises

We will never include or condone use of the following elements:

  • Rape/sexual assault

  • Cruelty towards minors

  • Cruelty towards animals

  • Discrimination against skin colour, gender, sexuality, sex, religion or disability

In Character (IC) discrimination may occur based on someone’s IC morals, beliefs, or prejudices, but these should arise from the circumstances of a character. If you feel you have been discriminated against in an Out Of Character (OC) fashion, please alert a member of the game team and we will deal with it immediately.*

GIVEN THE INTENSE AND UNRELENTING NATURE OF THIS GAME, THE TITHING IS AN 18+ EVENT.

ARE YOU COMING TO THE TREE?

"The Tithing: Storyline" is a series of three interlinked events forming one complete story, set in the world of New Eden and beginning around six months after the events of the 27th Annual Tithing Arena. This 3-part mini-series aims to explore life after death in a world where even your final rest is not your own, where the odds are never in your favour, and where your limits become the start line of your nightmares.

Much like The Tithing: Arena events, the world of New Eden throughout the planned storyline is a dark, bleak, and desperate one. The main theme is one of true psychological horror, exploring the darker sides of ordinary humanity and flexible morality against the backdrop of totalitarian control.

Your character represents the average citizen of New Eden – someone just trying to live their life as best they can, trapped in a situation over which they have no control, and forced into a situation in which they cannot possibly hope to survive.

The Storyline events are intended to feel difficult both IC and OC by design. The player base is not guaranteed to succeed, and the game itself is actively working against the you at all times. That being said, we firmly believe in rewarding player effort, and it is intended that player decisions during the Storyline Events will impact not only future Storylines, but also the Tithing Arenas. The world and its story will be shaped by the actions and decisions made throughout by you, the players.

In the Arena, we asked:

"What are you willing to do to survive?"

Now we ask:

"What are you willing to do to WIN?"

WELCOME TO THE WARREN

WHEN: 19-21 SEPT 2025

WHERE: CHEMICAL AIRSOFT, ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE, OL7 9RR

HOW MUCH: TICKETS FROM £150

WHO: 18+ ONLY

"Welcome to: The Warren" is the second of the three intended storyline events, exploring what happens to Tithes after the Arena cameras are switched off. The event will see Tithes from previous Arenas taken off-grid to a military black site where, for the intrepid and resourceful, they might finally see behind the curtain and learn some truths... but what will they do with the knowledge once they have it?

You died in the Arena; you woke up in a nightmare. What was real, what was a lie, what the hell is happening, and most importantly, why? As the gas takes hold and your eyes drift closed, you hear a commanding voice you recognise: "Take them to the Warren. They're ready."

This is a high combat, heavy roleplay event with no regeneration, and character death within the storyline events will be final.

This system will run until 2027:

2025 - 28th Arena & Welcome To: The Warren

2026 - 29th Arena & Welcome To: The Outpost

2027 - The Epilogue
